4 Tips for Charities and Nonprofits to Get #GivingTuesday Ready

Engage your corporate partners and their employees on November 27

#GivingTuesday is one of the biggest giving days of the year and it’s just around the corner! Are you ready to have your best year yet?

Last year, almost 200 of the companies that partner with Benevity to power their corporate social responsibility programs joined the global giving movement. Together they logged 45,000 volunteer hours and donated $13 million (including employer matching) to nearly 11,000 charities around the world. That’s incredible! And this year, we’re excited to see how much more good they’re going to do on November 27!

What does this mean for you? Many companies are still planning their campaigns, so it’s an ideal time to connect with them and raise awareness of what you’re doing. With the Benevity Causes Portal, you can easily share your story with some of the world’s most iconic companies and, even better, reach a potential employee base of 10 million users around the world.

Here are four tips to help you maximize your impact this #GivingTuesday:

1. Get your mission out there

Because #GivingTuesday isn’t tied to any specific cause or theme, it’s a great opportunity to let people know what your organization is all about and promote your ongoing initiatives. The more people know, the more they care. Check out this Social Media Toolkit from the folks at #GivingTuesday for tips and examples of how to use your social media accounts to rally more people for your cause. (We also shared this guide with our clients, so feel free to share it with your corporate partners, too.)

2. Connect with your corporate partners

If you’re already receiving support from companies and their employees, reach out to let them know about your #GivingTuesday efforts. And if they’re running their own campaign on November 27, encourage them to feature your organization in it. Together you can make a bigger impact!

Pro tip: Not sure which companies and their employees are already giving to you through Benevity? Log in to the Benevity Causes Portal and check out your reports! Learn more in this video.

3. Create a special project

Want to make it easy for more people to find your campaign and make a donation? Create a specific #GivingTuesday project in the Benevity Causes Portal to increase your visibility and rally more support.

4. Update your website

Promote your #GivingTuesday campaign through a banner or highlighted news story so that everyone who visits your site can learn more. You might even want to create a new page that displays all of your initiatives for the big day!
